Defender of Science Dinner | NYC
Please join us on Thursday, October 19, 2017 for our inaugural Defender of Science dinner and award ceremony at the Penn Club in midtown Manhattan.
We’ll honor Peter Fontaine and Michael Gerrard, two steadfast supporters of our mission, and bring together members of the New York legal, academic, and philanthropic communities united in a shared desire to protect the scientific endeavor.
Peter Fontaine, a partner at Cozen O’Connor, has been involved with the Climate Science Legal Defense Fund since its creation. CSLDF was founded in response to an ideologically motivated lawsuit targeting climate scientist Dr. Michael Mann and the University of Virginia, initiated by an anti-science group critical of Mann’s research. Fontaine and his team at Cozen helped represent Mann in that matter; after many years of litigation, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled in Mann’s favor in spring 2014.
Michael Gerrard is the director of the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School, where he also chairs the faculty of Columbia University’s Earth Institute. One of CSLDF’s earliest supporters in the legal and academic communities, Gerrard has helped leverage countless resources and connections for CSLDF as it grew from a volunteer-run side project to a non-profit with full-time employees.
Tickets for the event begin at $250 and include a cocktail reception and seated dinner. All proceeds will support CSLDF’s legal and educational services and help us meet the growing demand for our services.
