December update: Reflecting on 2024

Reflecting on 2024

2024 was a roller coaster. We started the year celebrating a win for a climate scientist who fought back against disinformation and defamation. We also filed a complaint on behalf of a federal climate scientist who was retaliated against for blowing the whistle on anti-science actions by the first Trump administration, and helped over 60 other researchers to date, regarding issues ranging from First Amendment concerns to invasive lawsuits.

We added dozens of entries to the Silencing Science Tracker, including a request that the publisher remove mentions of “climate change” from high school biology textbooks in Florida and JD Vance’s reference to climate change as “weird science” during the 2024 Vice Presidential debate.

As we look to 2025, we’re gearing up for Trump’s return. Having worked with federal scientists under the first Trump administration, we know it won’t be easy—but we’ll be ready.

Our annual End-of-Year blog post, which will be published next week, will provide a more detailed look at 2024. As we wrap up this turbulent year, we are grateful for the support of everyone standing with us on the frontlines of the war on science.

Your support is needed on the frontlines

The incoming administration has virtually guaranteed that climate will be removed from federal policymaking, while adding to the torrent of appalling anti-science rhetoric facing our society. And here at CSLDF, we’re responding to the already-growing number of federal scientists reaching out. They’re concerned and want to prepare.

Please donate today. The honest truth is your donations have never been more important as we face the most virulently anti-climate and anti-science administration in history. Fundraising is vital if we’re to meet the already-increasing need from federal researchers facing termination, censorship, and misinformation efforts from Trump appointees.

If you recently sent your gift, thank you for your support!
