February Update: Protecting Scientists at Federal Agencies and New Study by CSLDF Board Member
Protecting Science at Federal Agencies
Last month, the Biden administration issued its long-awaited framework for scientific integrity protections within federal agencies. Among other things, the framework includes a model scientific integrity policy—a measure which CSLDF has been advocating for years.
Read our take on the framework here, including its strengths and weaknesses, and specific areas where work still needs to be done.
Our director, Lauren Kurtz, was also quoted in a Nature article about the release of this scientific integrity framework and its unfortunately vague enforcement measures.
New Science study by CSLDF Board Member
Naomi Oreskes, CSLDF Board member and Harvard University professor, co-authored a groundbreaking study published last month in the journal Science. The study assesses the accuracy of ExxonMobil’s previously unreported global warming projections, starting in the late 1970s. Despite those forecasts projecting massive anthropogenic climate change, ExxonMobil continued to sow doubt about the gathering crisis. Read more about Dr. Oreskes’ study here.
Do you know about the benefits of monthly giving?
2023 is projected to be CSLDF’s busiest year yet, and monthly giving is a great way to show your ongoing commitment to protecting climate science and scientists. Many donors find it an effective and easy way to give.
Why make a monthly contribution?
- You might find that you can actually increase the impact of your giving through a monthly contribution – just $10 a month adds up to $120 a year, more than a $100 annual contribution.
- Setting up a monthly contribution is quick and easy. We’ll still send an annual receipt to you for tax purposes and you can cancel any time.
- Monthly contributions allow greater stability to budget and plan to support our community – and allows us to spend more time focusing on protecting science and less on fundraising.
- You’ll join a committed community of donors who are defending science!
We would love to welcome you as our newest monthly donor! Please, if you can, consider making this commitment today online here.
