A CALL TO ACTION
We are poised and ready to use our hard-earned knowledge to help protect and defend against another onslaught on science and scientists.
During the First Trump Administration…
- Our Silencing Science Tracker documented 341 government attempts to silence science
- Examples include restricting public communications, defunding federal agencies, and misrepresenting science to meet a political agenda
- Over 1,600 scientists left the federal government during the first three years of the Trump administration
The Incoming Administration Could…
- Result in an estimated 1,000,000 federal jobs lost, including tens of thousands of scientists and researchers
- Gut or even eliminate key federal scientific agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- Roll back greenhouse gas emissions regulations, clean energy investments, and other environmental protections
- Expand fossil fuel extraction and use
- Gut the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), a bedrock environmental law signed by Nixon in 1970

Since our founding in 2011, we’ve seen many attempts to harass and intimidate climate researchers in an effort to slow or prevent climate progress. This has taken many forms, including government censorship and political interference, which skyrocketed under the previous Trump administration.
We are concerned that the return of an even more virulently anti-science, climate-denying administration will usher in much more of the same. We are poised and ready to use our hard-earned knowledge to help protect and defend against another onslaught on science and scientists.
Free Resources for Scientists
We are actively listening to the climate science community to understand their needs and respond with new and increased educational resources and programming.
We have a library of free resources available to anyone who needs them:
- Pocket Guides on topics like the First Amendment, Handling Political Harassment, and more
- Reports on federal scientific integrity policies and open records laws in all 50 states
- Toolkits on Activism and Advocacy, Climate Litigation, and Political Action
We offer trainings and workshops to help scientists understand the legal system, their rights, and their responsibilities related to their work.
New Legal Defense Powers
We will continue to provide free legal help and guidance to federal scientists facing censorship, misrepresentation of scientific findings, job loss, and other anti-science actions.
We’re ready to defend scientists with the full force of the law, bringing the fight directly into the courts if necessary.
